Safeguarding Code of Conduct

(1) Statement of Commitment

This document aligns with the safeguarding standards set by Scottish Golf SafeGolf accreditation.

Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

We will:

  • Promote the wellbeing of all children and protected adults
  • Work in partnership with parents, carers, and external agencies
  • Follow national safeguarding guidance and legislation
  • Ensure safeguarding is embedded in all club activities

(2) Safeguarding Principles

  • The welfare of the child is paramount
  • Safe recruitment, training, and support will be implemented
  • All participants have the right to protection from abuse
  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility
  • All concerns must be taken seriously and responded to appropriately

(3) Code of Conduct for Staff, Coaches & Volunteers

Must:

  • Put the wellbeing of participants first
  • Maintain professional boundaries
  • Follow SafeGolf and club safeguarding procedures
  • Attend safeguarding training and PVG requirements
  • Report concerns without delay

Must not:

  • Engage in abusive or harmful behaviour
  • Develop inappropriate relationships
  • Use inappropriate language or discrimination
  • Be alone with a child in unsafe situations

(4) Code of Conduct for Members

  • Support safeguarding practices and policies
  • Report concerns to the Safeguarding Officer
  • Respect all children and vulnerable adults
  • Act as positive role models

(5) Code of Conduct for Juniors

  • Respect others and follow instructions
  • Play fairly and safely
  • Report concerns or worries
  • Avoid bullying or inappropriate behaviour

(6) Code of Conduct for Parents/Carers

  • Encourage and support children positively
  • Respect coaches and volunteers
  • Follow safeguarding procedures
  • Raise concerns appropriately

(7) Safe Practice

  • Follow SafeGolf guidance on supervision and ratios
  • Ensure PVG checks where required
  • Ensure safe environments for all activities
  • Adhere to policies on photography, transport, and communication

(8) Reporting Concerns

All concerns must be reported to the Club Safeguarding Officer.
If unavailable, escalate to Scottish Golf or statutory agencies.
In emergencies, contact police or emergency services immediately.


(9) Breaches

Breaches of this Code will be managed in line with disciplinary procedures and may result in referral to Scottish Golf or statutory authorities.


(10) Review

This document will be reviewed annually in line with Scottish Golf SafeGolf requirements.
